Recently we had a mother who had positive blood cultures for e coli. I
remember that Lawrence mentions that in a case of sepsis with mother, that
baby should not be fed her milk. This is the only source I found that
mentions this. Mother pumped. The pediatric residents would not allow
baby, (a premie) to have mother's milk until she had a neg blood culture.
Any experience with this? Has the milk actually been cultured to know
that the bacteria is transferred into the mother's milk?
