When I used to work with teen mothers, many of them were given Depo in the hospital before discharge and were given an appt for the next shot at the 3 month mark at their 6 week check-up. The rationale is to prevent an immediate pregancy. Most of the breastfeeding moms told me that their milk "dried up" within 2-3 weeks post-partum. Consequently, I found I had a much higher dropout rate. Too bad, when the breastfeeding rates among teens are so low to begin with.
