But why shouldn't they feel they have done something amazing?

They have!

The social obstacles to breastfeeding at all are a huge challenge to
many mothers in some parts of our society.

Mothers who succeed at breastfeeding face 'how long are you going to
do that?' questions from the age of a couple of months - think about
the mother I posted about who got a congratulations card from her
sister in law when her baby moved on to bottles!

Physiologcally, biologically, yes, of course, bf for less than
several years is nothing wonderful.

But we are social beings, and far more than our physiology.
