I had this discussion just this am with a midwifery student who was observing clinic...

It seems to me that, with the exception of a approved car seat (because of laws), there is not a single more _necessity_ for babies and breastfeeding than there was ten thousand years ago. 

James McKenna refers to the stone age baby in the space age world.  It's a quote I've used many times.  

Now... I love disposable diapers, and the diaper genie and the way cool strollers and Avent pumps and so on.  But our first child came home to hand me down basics, mom's breasts (no pillows, no pumps, no other "stuff") and a loving dad. We didn't even have onesies (a singularly brilliant notion)!  Safety, warmth, food and love.  Life is pretty simple from a baby's point of view.
