Dear Friends: A young couple planning a pregnancy has asked me the following questions. If anyone has any ideas about where they can find answers to their questions, please let us know. " We are looking at purchasing a breast pump, bottles, bottle nipples, pacifiers and the rest of the usual baby gear necessary. We are concerned about the chemical contents of these products. Specifically, we are trying to find out: Which brands and which products contain pvc? What kind of plastics are they made of if not pvc? What kind of plasticizers/softeners are used in the above products? Are there any phthalates in the above products? What catalysts are used in the production of the plastics used in the above products? I have heard that glass bottles are used instead. What are the advantages or disadvantages of using glass baby bottles? If you have a recommended solution to any of these products, can you please tell me where to find them. Thank you!" The only question I felt comfortable answering was about glass, that there are no phthlates in glass and milk components don't cling to the sides the way they do with plastics. warmly, Nikki Lee RN, MS, Mother of 2, IBCLC, CCE, CIMI Maternal-Child Adjunct Faculty Union Institute and University Film Reviews Editor, Journal of Human Lactation Support the WHO Code and the Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative *********************************************** To temporarily stop your subscription: set lactnet nomail To start it again: set lactnet mail (or digest) To unsubscribe: unsubscribe lactnet All commands go to [log in to unmask] The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(R) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
