Just want to publicly thank Jack Newman for his posting re meds used for MRI's and CAT scans not being a reason to interrupt breastfeeding. A mom I know called me last week because she was having a breast MRI (routine screening as she previously had breast cancer) and wanted references to give re post-test breastfeeding of her one yr old son. She'd not checked with me some months ago when her baby was much younger and had been told to interrupt brestfeeding for 24 hr, and now just knew she didn't need to follow that erroneous advice. So thanks, Jack, for providing your post making a quick reference available! With mom's permission, I've included her email to me: (too bad the doc wasn't around but maybe next time, policy will be changed) " As soon as I saw Jack {her baby'sa name, my parentheses} following the MRI he pulled at my shirt indicating he wanted to nurse and I gladly complied. Thank you for the information. I told the nurses and technicians (I didn't see the radiologist) about the AAP approval of this drug in breast feeding mothers and they still suggested I wait 24 hours to nurse. I suppose they can't contradict the doctors they work for though."
