I have seen quite a few women experience menstruation at or even before 6
months pp. Most of the time, in my experience, these have been either young
women, under 25, or women who may have been obese. Both of these appear to
have higher estrogen levels, thus even with Enviromental Breastfeeding,
menses can return earlier than some expect.

I don't automatically assume they aren't breastfeeding "properly" as I have
seen this *too* many times, in women who are breastfeeding quite often, and
not supplementing. Even some older women with normal body weight may have
higher estrogen levels, thus causing menses to return before the 12 month
mark.
