This is regarding the baby with the leaking stools in Long Island. 27 years ago when I fed my last child, he too had leaking breastfed yellow stools....and a horrific diaper rash. We tried cloth, Pampers, and service diapers...and occasionally when I felt like living dangerously...no diapers. He had the largest tube of Mycolog I have ever seen...we sent the diapers to be tested and we tried vinegar rinses, chamomille tea on his but, Balmex, Diaperene, and all kinds of home remedies...it was a yeast based rash from being moist and in diapers...once he was trained no more rash until the summer he started as a life guard and he was "wet" all day long...Here in SFl most of our rashes will be yeast based. Mom's want to put goo on the hiney from the get go and eventually its a futile pursuit, sooner or later they will need a anti yeast routine. In NICU we use "butt balm" its mixed in the pharmacy and is a combo of a caladryl type med with a antifungal and zinc oxide prep....I really don't think its the thyroid meds...My daughter who just delivered and lives in Long Island has Hashimoto's and takes meds and her baby doesn't have a rash but does have the wonderful yellow breastfeed stool that all of her aunts and uncles and mom had. I am thinking this is more tender bottom. What does mom think about a pediatric dermatology consult? Well hope this helped... Enjoying near 80 degrees and not missing the terrible cold we had in LI when Cara was born...but we do miss Cara and its true that daily contact keeps a Mom who might give up Breastfeeding ...counseling from 1500 mi away daily...
