Karleen posted about an adoptive situation with an older adopted baby with
arthrogryposis. I will be trying to help this mom, but I wondered if maybe
someone here might have some expertise with the specific challenges of
arthrogryposis, but missed Karleen's post altogether, or at least not
realized that arthrogryposis was a part of it. With it being such a rare
condition, I doubt that many of you have experience with it, but hope that
someone has! My niece learned to breastfeed after an initial period, only
about a week long, of working things out, despite abnormalities in her
facial muscles that made such tasks as learning to smile and speak
difficult. However, she was very fortunate to have parents who were not
only determined that she would be breastfed, but were experienced
breastfeeding parents already. The father's interest and attention to the
process of having his children breastfeed was quite wonderful to see!

Aloha,
Darillyn
