Goat's Rue: There is no data on the use of Goat's Rue during pregnancy; that is why some say not to take it during pregnancy. Pregnancy is a tricky situation when it involves drugs, especially when there is little or no human data. I have seen nothing contraindicating it during pregnancy because of any possible hypoglycemic effect. I have not located any sources stating that Goat's Rue is contraindicated during breastfeeding. All parts of the plant are used except the roots. Maybe the sheep that were poisoned were so starved they were pulling out and eating the roots also. If Goat's Rue was posioning people, the FDA would be able to step in and stop the distribution of Goat's Rue. In any case, the FDA has not done so. Frank J.
