I wonder if different pump company customer reps were saying different things about the tubing. I started my station almost 9 years ago, and my rep said, "Tell the moms NOT to get the tubing wet, don't wash them, don't put them in the sterilizer and if they get milk or water in them, rinse them with 70% or preferably 90% Isopropal Alchohol and let them air dry. If there is any visible mold, replace them." This is what I have always told my clients, and we have little problems with mold. They always give clients the explaination that NO MILK goes through the tubing (I point to the track the milk actually uses, as some moms who have never used a pump before actually think the tubing carries the milk!) only air, so to keep them as dry as possible. If I see mold, or have a report of mold, I suggest immediate replacement. Lots of reports of mold from E-Bay bought PNS,(!) but I won't sell replacement parts for second hand pumps anyway. The mold may only be the tip of the iceberg from these used products.
