Priscilla, I also wanted to say that you did not do anything to hurt this
lady, and do not need to feel badly about it. I am sure it was just the
situation, and that the discussion of breastfeeding would have bothered her,
no matter who was presenting it or what words were used. She may have been
quite unprepared for her strong reaction to it, too, which would increase
her need to leave the spot, rather than risk losing composure in front of
everyone. Having never had the opportunity to stay pregnant or give birth
to a baby, and having my husband decide to specialize in OB/GYN, I am very
well acquainted with this kind of thing. I have done a great deal of
avoiding the most painful topics. I suspect that this mom will work through
her feelings on this, and perhaps even become especially helpful to the
nursing mothers she has the opportunity to work with, because of her
personal experience.

If you have a chance to see her again, you might even want to mention to her
that relactation is possible. Perhaps she would like to visit ABRW, where
she could get information and support for getting her baby to take the
breast, and getting a milk supply rebuilt. For some reason, even many
people who will tell an adoptive mom that she can induce lactation, will not
think to mention the possibility of relactation to someone who has
experienced an unsuccessful attmempt to nurse a bio baby.

Darillyn
