It's flu season here and I usually get calls about whether bf moms can take
the flu vaccine shot. I have several sources that say yes they can. Today, a
bf -friendly pediatrician said she had rec'd info from her infectious
disease sources saying the flu vaccine is a new type and bf moms should not
take it. Does anyone have info on this?
I called the hosp. pharmacist who said the brand name was 'fluzone' which is
given in Hale as basically compatible w/ lactation by my interpretation. Can
anyone give me any info on whether or not there is some new formulation
which is problematic for bf moms? If so, I suggested to the doc that she
take an alternative vaccine (maybe the nasal spray one?) becoz she cannot be
told not to bf! She agreed.
