Hi Crystal,
I'm so sorry. Pulmonary embolii are not all that rare in newly
postpartum moms. Symptoms include sharp pains under the rib cage or in
the back, feeling short of breath, and sometimes pain when trying to
breathe. I once saw a new mom who had just developed one. I got to her
home and she looked awful. We talked about her symptoms and I
encouraged her to call her ob. The ob was brushing her off, so I got on
the phone and explained her sx and asked about the possibility of an
embolism. He had her come right in and she was diagnosed and treated
before anything bad happened.

If she would have been having these symptoms while you were there, you
would have noticed. This is something that comes on very fast, and if
severe can be instantly fatal.
Cyberhugs,
Catherine Watson Genna, BS, IBCLC NYC
