Laurena, Your description of this baby sounds *so* much like my first. He would nurse and throw up (not little spit-ups, but huge puddles) and scream and do it all over again. He slept a bit during the day, but basically would follow the above pattern every night from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. (He cried so much that both of his grandmothers were afraid of him and would not help me.) This went on for weeks, until a LLL Leader told me my baby might be having trouble with dairy in my diet. (This was 23 years ago, and I *much* later learned that this was new info at the time, and I was the "guinea pig" for this idea for this Leader.) I had to be very strict about the dairy. I had to read all the labels and avoid all the hidden stuff, including whey and casein. It was difficult for me because I craved the dairy I couldn't have. But it made such a marvelous difference in my son's behavior that it was well worth the sacrifice. I have also learned since then to have moms keep a food diary while they are running the dairy experiment. Sometimes it really isn't dairy, and sometimes it's dairy plus something else. I ask them to draw two columns on a sheet of paper. On the left side, write down everything they eat and drink, and the times. On the right side, write down the times the baby shows any symptoms of distress and what the symptoms are. With at least 4-5 days, so that a pattern can be found, we can often find the food or food type that is causing the trouble. But it has to be written down, because exhausted mothers can't find the pattern just from memory. (And usually can't find it even when written down because they are so tired, but need another set of eyes to look at the diary.)
