I'm a bit behind in reading but felt compelled to put my 2 cents in regarding suck training. Please do not hesitate to refer to a therapist any baby on which you have exhausted your bag of tricks. Remember, as Nikki states, SLPs, PTs and OTs are trained in feeding techniques - most of the therapists in my area (Chicago) tell me that they receive no specific training in working with breast babies but some of them are more than willing to learn. One of the best things I discovered that I could do for myself in terms of professional growth as well as for my mothers is to "bond" with an interested therapist. The progress many of these babies make in a short period of time is amazing! And you have a forever grateful mom because a timely referral allowed her to meet her nursing goals.
