I had a call from a tearful mom last night. She was just started yesterday on Topamax for seizures and was told to stop nursing her 14 month old (due to the medication). Mom wants to continue nursing. States she usually bfs only morning and night. Dr. Hale book shows L3 category, but this was on a study of 2 infants (3 weeks old). Can I assume it would be less risky on this minimal nursing 14 month old? (The only reason mom is started on seizure med. is because she went to renew her drivers license and said "Yes" to have you ever had a seizure. She said she had one 1 year ago, and a total of 4 over the last 4 years but never treated.) Any insight you could give me would be helpful. Thank you.
