The recent discussions on small cell hives got me to thinking about their application in top bar hives. Based on Dee Lusby's observations, it would seem that bees will not naturally draw small cell comb in a top bar hive (no foundation) unless the bees themselves are smaller (a trait largely bred out of bees 100 years or so ago).

Are there any known strains/races which are naturally smaller and produce smaller cell sizes?

Thanks,

Todd.
