Hello, Karleen.
I checked HERB CONTRAINDICATIONS AND DRUG INTERACTIONS by Francis
Brinker, ND (2d ed., c 1998). Couldn't find any cautions about drug interactions
for blessed thistle or goats rue, although it did state that goats rue can
lower blood sugar levels so may be of concern for diabetics.
Fenugreek contains water-soluble, hydrocolloidal fiber which can
create mucilage that can coat the intestines and thereby reduce absorption of
medicines. Based on this, the mother would probably want to be sure to take the
fenugreek at different times than when she takes her citalopram and oroxine
(synthroid, in USA), and might even want to avoid it entirely and instead stick to
the blessed thistle and goats rue.
