I was pleased to see the letter forwarded by Nancy Wight to LN from Joan Meek. As to whether she will withdraw from lectures already planned, she may be bound by contract to appear and give the lectures as scheduled. But, since they are live events, the sponsor would not be able to censor her words in time if she were to bring up some of the points in her letter to them as part of a talk. This could be uncomfortable, but probably worth it, IMO. This discussion and Dr. Meek's clarification of her position might not have happened without the discussion on Lactnet. That is what pleases me the most, I think: that a serious discussion RIGHT HERE about where to draw the line, maintaining respect for our colleagues but not a blind respect for every decision each colleague takes, can effect change.
