I didn't get any responses on this so I am resending. I got an email from a friend describing a problem her friend is having. I would like see her speak to someone near her in person - the email follows - hope someone can help out ... Suggestions are also welcome :) I didn't really ask too many questions back (ie what type of pump is she using, etc.) because I feel that it is important she see someone and also because this info is third hand Andrea Mass LLLL Ft. Lauderdale, FL My good friend has a 3 mo. old dd. When my friend was 8 mo. pregnant she found out she has inverted nipples. She swears she didn't know until she went to her birthing class and they talked about inverted nipples. At that point she started wearing nipple shells to help draw out the nipples until the baby was born. Once her dd was born she got nipple shields which she wears every time she breastfeeds. She tried to breastfeed without the shields but her daughter could not latch on. She has had a really hard time breastfeeding. The lc in the hospital told her to supplement with formula. At 1 mo. post partum she had a lc come to her home who also told her that dd was not getting enough milk from her b/c of the shields and inverted nipples so supplementing would be her only option. Her dd is very small for her age. She was 8 lb. 8 oz. at birth and I think she's gained maybe 2 lb. since then so they're worried about her size. She says when she pumps she can barely get an ounce even after 30 minutes. She would like to phase out the formula but fears her supply is way too low due to supplementing. She has a horrible time breastfeeding and her dd just screams when she tries. Is there anything she can do to help her out? She heard that breastfeeding would draw her nipples out but she says they are still as inverted as ever. What are some things she can do to up her supply and draw her nipples out? I just feel so bad for her b/c she really wants to breastfeed but feels that she can't and she's getting really discouraged. *********************************************** To temporarily stop your subscription: set lactnet nomail To start it again: set lactnet mail (or digest) To unsubscribe: unsubscribe lactnet All commands go to [log in to unmask] The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(TM) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
