The queens in the observational hives have had no problem with the 4.9
size. The abdomen tapers and fits in the smaller cells without any problems.
The biggest queen I have ever seen was on all 4.9 cell size frames.
She was tapered.
I marker her and clipped wings before installing her. The mark came
off (number) but the wing clipping stayed. This 4 frame observation hive
swarmed yesterday and the status of the queen is unknown this morning. No
chemicals, no mites, and no destruction from beetles and the health of hive is perfect.
