Laurie, I'm finally responding to 3 week old Lactnets... A blighted ovum is a pregnancy where the membranes and placenta part of the embryo continue to grow while the inner cell mass (the part that will become the baby itself) dies or never grows properly. These pregnancies can be miscarried early, or they can become established and last for many months, without the poor mom knowing that she is not carrying a baby. It's particularly hard for the mom when she had all the signs of pregnancy, including the growing uterus for 4 or 5 months, and then finds out that the baby never formed. From a breastfeeding perspective, she will have milk after the pregnancy ends, just like a mom who had a stillbirth. -- Catherine Watson Genna, IBCLC New York City mailto:[log in to unmask] *********************************************** To temporarily stop your subscription: set lactnet nomail To start it again: set lactnet mail (or digest) To unsubscribe: unsubscribe lactnet All commands go to [log in to unmask] The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(TM) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
