It's much more reliable if you do it at dusk. Swarms that are "nervous" (obviously very active) probably have already chosen a spot, and it's pretty hard to get them to stay, no matter what you do. Hiving at dusk, with a frame of brood, gives the best results, though. If they stay overnight, they'll usually be yours.
