Joyce, Our organization as well (Nursing Mothers) attends Baby Fest on a monthly basis at BRU in Newark, DE. It has been a wonderful and effecive opportunity to reach expectant parents and educate the public. We had dads proudly approach our table and tell us that his wife breastfed/feeds and how healthy he knows it it, etc. Anyway, here's the original mssg: During my lurking around on Americanbaby.com searching for Dr. Greene articles, I came across this: http://www.americanbaby.com/ab/CDA/bfAbout/1,1334,,00.html?s=370 Try not to throw up. And then consider getting your own both to promote breastfeeding when this circus comes to a town near you... Our breastfeeding group attended an event such as this in Newark, DE last year (Baby Expo) put on by Babies R Us. We were the only lactation- oriented table there admist a sea of mainstream-type venues, and some not so mainstream. There were a few sling vendors that I can remember. I have recollections of scanning the event's tables with a accusing eye looking for bottle- promoting marketers-- there were a few. I can't believe this "faire" lists not one thing to do with nursing. All I can say is good luck to the AAP and their Healthy People 2010 campaigne if formula companies are going to be allowed to continue marketing, especially at events such as this where there is no "competition" from breastfeeding-related product vendors or support organizations/lactation consultants- these "faires" are expected to draw a huge number of expectant parents, many of whom are likely comtemplating their "choices."
