In my experience, these are uric acid crystals --a sign of dehydration. Sometimes they are mistaken for blood on the diaper, looking like streaks of orange. In the absence of other clinical signs of dehydration, the "treatment" can be very simple. Increase fluids, i.e. time at the breast and check latch. We used to see this fairly often at one place I worked (only in breastfed babies), but rarely see it anymore. Possibly because moms/nurses at my facility are SO ready to give some formula!
