I've spoken with a breastfeeding mom whose baby is 14 mos. who had 5
amalgam fiilings removed. She's received mixed information about the amount
of mercury contamination that would be in her breastmilk. In Hale's 2002
book it states, "Mothers should not have amalgam fillings removed. Mothers
known to be contaminated with mercury should not breastfeed."
This mom would like to continue nursing. Does anyone have any
information about amalgam fillings? How long should she keep baby off
breast? Any information would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Jan IBCLC
