The epilepsy foundation keeps a pregnancy drug registry to track outcomes of pregnancy for women on anticonvulsants. They may have information on breastfeeding as well. Their email is epilepsyfoundation.org . A new study suggested that some of the newer medications (topirimate- topamax ; lamotrigine- lamictal and gabapentin - neurontin) are more effective used alone (monotherapy) than polytherapy with older drugs. The numbers for topamax were particularly impressive. I don't have the reference with me (am in the hospital with my daughter, in the epilepsy monitoring unit!) but it was presented at the AES meeting last month (Dec 2002) and reported on Medscape. Do a search for CEU articles on epilepsy.
