A couple of things come to mind: 1. inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) - I have just done a search and found some great sites. One said "A surprising portion of young women with IBC had their first symptoms during pregnancy or lactation." Also that about 50% of cases were treated first with 2 or 3 courses of antibiotics becoz they were misdiagnosed as mastitis. I found a site which I can't find again, but it had great photos and a video clip that was excellent. The bottom line was that since this mom has been repeatedly treated with symptoms continuing to recur, this mom should INSIST ON A BIOPSY. 2. Make sure the milk is cultured (I think this was done and found group B strep) and a sensitivity done to treat that particular strain. 3. I beleive sometimes the mom is kept on low dose antibiotics and she might want to take probiotics with that like acidophillus. 4. Culture the baby's nose/throat as well and maybe treat him too.
