The Americas Society and North/South Consonance, Inc. are pleased to present a concert with the music of Mexican/American composer Max Lifchitz in a retrospective of his music for soloists and chamber orchestra. The concert will take place on Monday February 3, 2003 at 8pm, at Merkin Concert Hall located at 129 West 67th Street. The concert is free and open to the public, however, tickets are required. For reservations and information, please call 212-249-8950 or 212-628-3200, ext 463; or e-mail the Americas Society at [log in to unmask] The program will feature the following works, written during the last twelve years: Mosaico Latinoamericano commissioned by flutist Lisa Hansen and premiered in 1991, now in a completely revised and expanded version; Yellow Ribbons N. 40 for soprano and chamber orchestra, which is part of a series of works from the 1980's that pay homage to the former US hostages in Iran; and Night Voices N. 13, a cello concerto commissioned in 1993 by Mexican cellist Carlos Prieto. The performers include soprano Heidi Skok, flutist Lisa Hansen, cellist Wolfram Koessel and the composer, Max Lifchitz, conducting the North/South Chamber Orchestra.
