To this, I cannot resist pointing out two wonderfully evocative,
modern flute concertos: those by Rautavaara and by Christopher Rouse.
In addition, Jacques Ibert's flute concerto strikes me as quite attractive,
and not disfigured by this composer's usual excessive cuteness.  Maybe
other people have other favorites.
