I had lab work done last year at work as part of their health promotions. At the time I was breast feeding my 10 month old. My cholesterol levels came back a little high. I really don't have a family hx. of choleserol problems. I felt I ate a healthy diet also. Last winter, my husband started on the Atkins diet. Since I was cooking for him, I changed my diet habits somewhat also. I ate a modified Atkins diet because I was breast feeding I didn't want to be breaking down stored fats and releasing them in the milk. I increased my proteins and fats and decreased my carbohydrates. I really thought nothing of it. I wasn't trying to loose weight I was just eating what I was preparing. I went to the health fair in Oct. of this year; still breast feeding my 21 month old. They did the lab work again. Interestingly, my cholesterol improved 33% across the board. The good went up and the bad went down. I have been eating an egg, sausage or bacon every morning! After reading Atkin's book, I am a firm believer in his diet, if you want to loose weight or improve your health. I would recommend she look into his book.
