Hello Cheryl, My address has changed to [log in to unmask] in case anyone needs it. You can also e-mail me and get my phone number or get it from LLLI as I list myself as a Russian-speaking leader resource. I am willing and will be glad to help your Russian mother. There are several Russian parenting boards on-line. These are several that are, to my knowledge, "patrolled" by breastfeeding supportive mothers who fight for every woman who wants to breastfeed trying to offer as much help as possible via the Internet. www.7ya.ru (I go there as a private person, NOT as a LLL leader), www.mother.ru (has a very good FAQ section by a pediatrician, Lilia Kazakova, who is very knowledgeable about breastfeeding), www.mama.ru (it's a little hard to navigate but once you find forums, there is a separate BF support group right there). As far as I know, Domperidone is called by its trade name in Russia -- Motilium. I won't be one bit surprised if you can get it without any prescription. You can get almost any drug there over the counter or pay a doctor to prescribe you about anything you wish to get. As far as literature goes, I am aware only of one decent resource in Russian. It is a book called "Breastfeeding and psychological unity "mother and child" by E. M. Fateeva and Zh. V. Tsaregradskaya, 2000 The book is very good and based on WHO/UNICEF information. Fateeva is a pediatrician, Professor of Medicine. She works at a research Institute of Nutrition of Russian Academy of Science as well as consults Moscow Health and BF support Committee (these are all my translations of titles and names and they may be not accurate, but give some idea what she is). Zh. V. Tsaregradskaya is a teacher and a psychologist-perionatologist. She is a mother of 6 (each child was breastfed for two years). Tsaregradskaya is, in my opinion, the most prominent and important figure in BF support and promotion in Russia. She is the founder of a Public BF support group "Mothers for breastfeeding" as well as special training courses for public lactation consultants (a mixture of a LC and a LLL leader, they answer phone calls for free and make home visits for a fee). Tsaregradskaya is considered to be a hard-liner in the matters of BF. She strongly promotes BF for two years just like is recommended by WHO. Indeed, many mothers who come to the parenting board nurse until their children are two years of age (of course, this is not representative of the whole population). Tsaregradskaya is a fairly well-known figure in Russia for her "fanatic" (read very good, informative) articles and public appearances on public TV. I hope this helps some and also sheds some light on some areas of BF matters in Russia. Sincerely, Natalie Wilson LLL of NC. *********************************************** To temporarily stop your subscription: set lactnet nomail To start it again: set lactnet mail (or digest) To unsubscribe: unsubscribe lactnet All commands go to [log in to unmask] The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(TM) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
