Just talked to mom again. She's been weighing on a gram scale (set to ounces) pre and post feeds for about 6weeks - historically he was getting 1-1.5oz total, per feed, using super switching to keep him nursing as long as possible. When she started the herbs, there was one feed where he go 2 oz.....then it went back down. Yesterday, her second day of domperidone, he got 3 oz, now it's back to about 2 oz. Like I said, she's noticed significant changes in the size of her breasts since domperidone. There had been breast changes during pregnancy (yes, size changes, tenderness, visible colostrum). She had stopped pumping since it was physically and emotionally draining to her, totally unproductive and taking time away from her baby. Since she's had a break and is now doing so many things to increase her supply, she decided to try pumping again, this time with a rented hospital grade pump. However, it's yielding the same results. We've covered pumping tips (heat, massaging/shaking breasts, breast compression), she's tried different timing - immediately post feeds and 'in between feeds" (which is tough b/c she puts him to the breast on cue between supplemented nursings). Regardless of what she's doing, she's getting almost nothing from the pump - about 1/2 oz over the course of several pumping sessions. Also just found out something not so promising. As I mentioned before, birth weight was 7#5. Four days later was 7#2 (he was getting formula as he didn't nurse till day 3). Eleven days later was 7#5. That's new information. However, four weeks later was 8#8. Okay....there you have it. The most complete picture to date. Mom is so frustrated. She won't stop breastfeeding, no matter what. Even if she ends up using a Lact-Aid for six months or a year. But she's really grieving the loss of being able to nurture this baby the way she assumed she would. And now for the madcow question. Several friends have offered to pump their breastmilk for her baby, which she'd prefer over formula. One of the friends was living in England during the madcow scare and can't donate blood. She is, however, nursing her 4 month old. They both feel that her breastmilk would be as safe for S's baby as it is for her own baby but mom is just looking for more information. Thanks everyone, I really appreciate it. katherine in atl *********************************************** To temporarily stop your subscription: set lactnet nomail To start it again: set lactnet mail (or digest) To unsubscribe: unsubscribe lactnet All commands go to [log in to unmask] The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(TM) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
