Are strait jackets still used for adults who can't be calmed down or who are
violent in  mental health facilities/prisons?   Swaddling of infants strikes
me as a similiar kind of technique.   Its about controlling behavior by
restricting freedom of movement.  I had always thought that infants (premies
even) use their hands to console themselves, hand-to-mouth, hand to hand.
Swaddling denies self-touch and does not allow the infant to control his/her
environment.  Is this a technique that calms a baby or a technique that
punishes a baby for being out of control?  I have to agree with Gonneke on
