Hello! I recently was added to Lactnet and have this question. A
breastfeeding mom of an eight month old went to her DR because she was
getting recurring migraine headaches. She had a history of migraines prior
to the birth of her children and tried different meds but was not happy with
their effects. With the birth of her first child, the migraines seemed to go
away on their on. With the birth of her second child, they came back even
worse than before she had children. Her DR perscribed Zomig and told her to
take it at the onset of a migraine but that she would have to "pump and dump"
for six to eight hours after taking the med. The mother was frustrated by
this advice because her baby nurses on demand day and night, and to delay a
feeding six to eight hours is unreasonable for her. She talked to her DR
about this, but the doc just said that the baby is old enough to wean and if
she wanted to use Zomig, this is the way it needed to be done. Mom wanted to
know if anyone has more info about Zomig and if there are any other meds used
to treat migraines that are more compatible with breastfeeding. Any ideas or
experiences that might help?
