Hello All I have a BFAR client who I need some help with. She is understandably concerned with nursing her baby - first baby, 3 days old today, born at 42+3 wga via c/s after 43 hours labor, 8# 1oz, baby LOP with lots of bruising on slanted very molded head, good pro nurser on flat hard to draw out nipples, mom given nipple shield but doesn't like it. Doesn't help that baby latches, sucks hard and lets go to snooze. He's pooped from a heavy duty, long Pit, epidural labor. Plus epidural worked too well and mom couldn't feel her breasts or hands for many hours after surgery so nurses and I held her breasts and got baby latched well. She wanted to bring her organic formula to the hospital, that's how lacking in confidence she was. Wants to bf because of how healthy it is for baby. She has been surfing the bfar.org website a lot. She hasn't read Diana West's BFAR book though - and thank you to Ms. West for posting her info about it yesterday - just what I needed to help my client to understand how useful the book could be to her. So, any help to share? She is also moving out of town in the next few weeks to a place that is in the middle of nowhere, but does have an LLL meeting :). New job, new baby, c/s birth, even bought new house sight unseen. Lots of stressors on this mom. TIA for any help or advice you can give me.
