Hi all
My name is Julie Jones and I work in a level 2 Special Care Nursery, and I
have just taken the lastest IBCLC exam. I am very nervous about the results
because the exam was a lot tougher than I expected (some of the questions
were quite ambiguous) I am keeping my fingers crossed for October. I have
found some of the discussions very interesting and lively--I have a few
personal opinions about the use of equipment in breast feeding. In fact I
use equipment quite extensively when dealing with a lot of the mums in the
nursery but always teach hand expression as well. Its not an either/or
situation. Its great if the mums can establish breast feeding without
resorting to any gizmos but if they are needed, they should be used rather
than fracturing an already tenuous breastfeeding relationship. Sometimes
they are needed to get mum over the almost insurmountable hurdle (from her
perspective)she sees herself in.
