Kathy, Re IBCLC reimbursement: I have wondered about this and I believe it is even discussed somewhere in our archives. What I wonder is why can't the physician or other hcp bill for the service and then reimburse the LC a fee? For example, let's say you have a peds patient who has cystic fibrosis. Let's say your nurse spends several education sessions with the family teaching about the enzymes, diet, chest physiotherapy (is that still done) etc? The nurse gets paid a salary and the doctor bills for these visits, right? What if the nurse teaches the family about giving insulin? Ideally, the IBCLC would be able to get reimbursed, but in the meantime, if you have some working for/with you, couldn't you do it that way? I'm not suggesting anything fraudulent, just wondering about these other scenarios where the physician doesn't actually spend all the time teaching the client.
