Both Ross and Mead Johnson have approached our unit Director to promote their DHA formulas. They are coming April 16th. I have collected several of these scientific studies, along with information about all of the other beneficial properties found in Breastmilk, which can not be duplicated in a lab. The article in USA Today on 02-21-02 which states that the FDA and AAP "aren't yet convinced that the supplemented formulas, expected to cost 10% to 15% more than conventional formulas, will make much of a difference in babies who aren't premature" is PRICELESS. I have asked our Director for a "rebuttal" session after the Reps have been dismissed. I will share my info with staff and physicians at this time. I have also added this topic to my BF classes, which are highly attended. We serve a population who cannot afford a 10-15% increase in cost for something that has NOT been proven. If anything, we will likely see an increase in BF rates if this formula becomes the norm. So let them market their expensive artificial milk all they want. ;<) Susan Hannan RNC BSN IBCLC (From snowy Northern Ohio) Coordinator of OB Patient Education and Lactation Services Lake Hospital System, Painesville and Willoughby Ohio *********************************************** The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(TM) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
