Two researches I heard of regional "still" sites was one in Illinois by
Philip Weigand, Ph.D. and one in Mississippi, by John Blitz, Ph.D. or his
father in the former Choctaw region of the southeast. The oldest one,
perhaps, is the alembic excavated from Nuzi in Iraq near Kirkuk and Mosul
(there is a "large" beginning 4th century CE "Catholic" community there) by
Starr of Harvard University reported in the 1930's.
