Are we sure that it is the husband that is insisting upon the resumption of
intercourse so quickly? As I understand it, once lochia has stopped and
uterine healing is complete (as soon as a couple of weeks for a normal
vaginal birth with no tearing/episiotomy, intercourse is not contraindicated
given that all parties are interested... I know of at least two moms first
hand who have shared that they have not had a need to wait the "magic" six
weeks, and in fact were interested and willing.... their particular
challenge was convincing their husbands they felt up to it!

Also, in some cultures (the inference being that those of certain
backgrounds had husbands insisting upon early resumption of intercourse
without much choice on the part of the wife), the use of artificial
contraceptives goes against faith beliefs, and we need to respect that, even
if those are not the beliefs we hold. Clients in this position would
benefit from a referral to a good NFP program such as can be found at
ccli.org or popepaulvi.org under the Creighton method link....
