Hello all, I have been no mail (at home) and lurking for years actually. So I will briefly reintroduce myself. I was a long time LLL Leader (13 years of active service), got my masters degree in Lactation from Pacific Oaks College, graduated nurrsing school in 2000 and just this week became certified as a NIDCAP examiner (CNE). NIDCAP stands for newborn individualized developmental care assessment and planning. I have a very small private practice (Latch-On Services) and I work for Iowa Health Systems. I work primarily at Iowa Methodist and Blank Children's Hopsital. My job is full time and devoted 100% to lactation. Our NICU is the first in the country (or was) with a family cerntered care structure. The redesigned facility has private rooms with sleeping quarters for the parent. It is awesome. The NICU has the largest group of NIDCAP trained examiners that we know of (20). I had the priviledge of spending the past year in training. The team is made up primarily of NICU nurses but there are 2 OT/PTs and 1 speech therapist and myself, IBCLC. My goal is to integrate developmental care into breastfeeding issues both in the NICU and in the newborn nursery. Are there any other NIDCAP IBCLCs out there? Would love to share how you have used NIDCAP specifically for breastfeeding. Thanks Joanne Burke Snyder, RN, MA, IBCLC, CNE *********************************************** The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(TM) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
