Marcelo Araujo: >Have anyone ever heard a recording of Schumann's 'Dichterliebe' rendered >by a countertenor? (...) Could Lieder be transposed for another voice or >should it be forbiden? Would you like to share your opinions? Transposition may work within a reasonable range. I think it depends on the voice color more than on the voice type. A few months ago, I got a score of Schubert's "Gute Nacht" (I from "Winterreise") in a tenor voice version, in d minor. As I have a dark baritone voice (and poor vocal resources...), I found more natural and comfortable to it in c minor. However, it wasn't only a matter of comfort:I thought that this key was more fitted to the song, given its general character and text (which is, of course, a merely subjective opinion). Now I wonder how would Schubert's "Erlkonig" sound in a countertenor voice... Pablo Massa [log in to unmask]
