I have a client who some time ago had her stomach stapled in an effort to
lose weight. She is 1 week postpartum and baby is slow gaining. I truly
feel he is doing fine...wts more a reflection of lots of IV fluids for mom.
He is feeding well, lots of wet/dirty diapers and good milk supply. He has
been only at the breast!. Mom is worried about wts and I am being reassuring
till we get a follow up wt in 2 days to see the trend. My question...She
consumes "maybe 1000 calories" a day. She still wts over 200 lbs easy. Is
this calorie consumption enough to sustain milk production? She is going to
start a nutrional supp to help boost calories to see if that helps. Any
suggestions?
