Hi!
I am Jean Krauss and this is my first time using
Lactnet. I certified last year and have been working
for a year as a hospital-based LC, and I teach a
prenatal breastfeeding class at the hospital. There
are 2 questions I've been asked several times
recently, and I haven't been able to get a definitive
answer from a current resource.
1. Several clients have told me their OBs said they
should not eat fish that could contain mercury, such
as tuna, bluefish, etc. while they are pregnant. What
about breastfeeding? I've heard conflicting info, and
would like something documented that I could show
them.
2. A client asked me about peanuts while nursing
causing peanut allergies. I'd say it's OK unless
there's a strong family history of the allergy. What
does the research say?
Thanks for the info.
