Hi all, This morning I decided to check on the SIDS Alliance site to see if they have added or updated anything about the importance of breastfeeding per the CDC conference. The only thing I found was in the page of 'latest research' 'reducing the risk of sids' there was a mention in the last paragraph about breastfeeding & immunizations. Still no bold letters, or strong emphasis. So,I called them ( SIDS Alliance: http://www.sidsalliance.org)this morning and told them that the New Zealand Cot study showed the risk factors for SIDS as not being breastfed, smoking, and prone sleeping position and then told her of the latest CDC study. The girl on the phone was surprised to hear the 55% statistic. (check http://www.cdc.gov/eis for the conference abstracts.) I asked if she needed the address and she said that they had the CDC web address but, of course I gave her the slash eis to add. She sounded interested and is going to show it to her director. Maybe others have done this in the past but this morning I just felt I needed to further the cause a little bit by making someone a little more aware of breastfeeding's importance, besides just the women I have given the Associated Press article to that we discussed a few months ago. I have been stewing over this for a while and when I got my new Pampers educator stuff yesterday and there was really nothing emphasizing breastfeeding it just made me mad. If you think a few more calls and e-mails would help... Thanks, Happy WBW!
