So, does this mean the old joke that most heroin addicts started out
drinking milk, is NOT a joke?

Newborns of unmedicated mothers do have endorphins.  I can't remember at
this late hour how much is maternal and how much is endogenous in the baby.
Maybe we aren't supposed to need them from outside ourselves?
