Betsey: The $2.50 per ounce is not the price of breast milk from a milk
bank. It is reimbursement - probably only partial - for testing, pooling,
testing, pasteurizing, testing, freezing, testing, storing, maintaining the
facilities, endless recordkeeping, packaging & shipping of breast milk to
the end user. It is not a profit making venture. The next time you attend
a conference or workshop where someone who runs a milk bank is speaking
about what they do, consider attending. I think you will come out of that
session with a new respect, and wondering how they can charge ONLY $2.50 per
ounce for their services.
