Thanks Pat, I did search the archives and could find lots of discussion on weight loss, 10% etc but not actually which days post delivery that babies were routinely weighed. I absolutely agree that weight is not the only way of assessing the baby and the whole picture is what counts. I just get the feeling we are weighing these babies more often than in other places and was looking for confimation. If you are not weighing for another 4 days from birth some of those babies may actually have lost more that 10% but are on the climb back up again by Day 4 and you don't know that cause you didn't weigh them in between. I guess its a case of what you don't know wont hurt you (LOL!) Louise, your routine of weighing Day 0 then Day of discharge would seem to work better. 41 % of our mums are discharged on Day 3, which is probably *the* worst day to go home don't you think, with the hormones hitting and milk coming in!...but that another story. 20% go home day 2 and 17% day 4. So for 41% of the time the baby would be weighed day 2 then again day 3 prior to discharge! Too much weighing (I think)and then the poor mother goes home petrified that her baby has loss around 10% of its birthweight, they are undermined, losing their confidence, reaching for the formula. All of this is so hard to 'undo' and build their confidence up again. Any way thanks for the feedback, I'm just interested on what others do.
